Farmers Urged to Start Potato Cultivation in October for High Yields, Say Experts

ISLAMABAD, Oct 3 (Alliance News): Agriculture experts have advised farmers to begin cultivating potatoes immediately, emphasizing that October is the optimal time to plant the crop for a bumper harvest.

A spokesperson from the Agriculture (Extension) Department highlighted that potatoes are among Pakistan’s key crops, following wheat, rice, and maize.

Potatoes are considered a complete food source, rich in essential vitamins, minerals, proteins, carbohydrates, potassium, and sodium, making them a staple in the country.

Farmers are encouraged to plant approved varieties, such as Sahiwal Red, Sahiwal White, Cosmo, Sialkot Red, Sadaf, Ruby, and PRI-Red, over large areas.

The spokesperson emphasized that successful potato production will not only meet the nation’s food needs but also provide financial relief to growers.
