PMD Forecasts Cold Wave with Rain and Snowfall in Northern Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Dec 6 (Alliance News): The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain, wind, and thunderstorms with snowfall over the hills in the northern regions, as cold wave conditions are expected to impact most parts of the country from December 08-14.

This weather pattern is anticipated to provide some relief to areas affected by smog.

A westerly wave is projected to start affecting upper regions from December 07, leading to a significant drop in both daytime and nighttime temperatures.

In Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir, temperatures are expected to fall 4-6 degrees Celsius below normal, while Balochistan and Sindh may experience drops of 5-7 degrees Celsius below average.

Gusty winds and cold weather are also likely in Sindh, Balochistan, and parts of Punjab, with frost formation anticipated in the plains.

Moderate rain, wind, and thunderstorms with snowfall over the hills are forecasted for Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Buner, Shangla, Manshera, Abbottabad, Kohistan, Astore, Ghizer, Gilgit, Hunza, Skardu, Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Kotli, Haveli, and Bagh from the night of December 07 to December 11, with occasional breaks.

Light to moderate rain and snowfall are expected in Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Sialkot, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha, Khushab, Faisalabad, and Jhang from December 07 (night) to December 08 (afternoon).

The PMD has advised farmers to plan their activities with the potential frost conditions in mind. Citizens are urged to limit prolonged exposure outdoors during cold and windy periods, particularly during the early morning and night hours.

Tourists and travelers heading to mountainous areas should exercise caution. Authorities have been instructed to remain vigilant and take preventive measures to mitigate any potential risks, especially in northern regions.
