Warmer Days Expected in Karachi Amid Drought Concerns in Pakistan

KARACHI, Jan 26 (Alliance News): Karachi is bracing for slightly warmer days ahead, with temperatures expected to rise to a maximum of 26°C to 28°C from Monday or Tuesday, weather analysts said Sunday.

The minimum temperature is forecast to remain between 11°C and 13°C during this period.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the city’s weather will remain cold and dry over the next 24 hours, with a minimum temperature of 9°C to 11°C on Sunday. Humidity levels in Karachi stand at 41%, with winds blowing from the northeast at 11 km/h.

The PMD has issued a drought alert for several parts of the country, attributing it to below-normal rainfall and increasing temperatures. From September 1, 2024, to January 15, 2025, rainfall across Pakistan was reported to be 40% below normal.

The provinces of Sindh, Balochistan, and Punjab are experiencing significant rainfall deficits of 52%, 45%, and 42%, respectively, with drought-like conditions emerging in several regions.

In Punjab, areas such as Attock, Chakwal, Rawalpindi, Multan, and Bahawalpur are under mild drought, along with the federal capital Islamabad.

Similarly, Sindh is facing dry conditions in districts including Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, and Tharparkar.

Balochistan is also affected, with regions like Ormara, Kharan, Turbat, and Lasbela facing worsening drought impacts, the PMD added.
