ADB Approves $320 Million Loan for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Rural Roads Rehabilitation

ISLAMABAD, Sep 13 (Alliance News): The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a $320 million loan to support the rehabilitation of 900 kilometers of rural roads in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, enhancing year-round safe connectivity for remote communities.

This project, titled the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Rural Roads Development Project, aims to upgrade roads vulnerable to flooding and poor conditions.

The project incorporates climate-resilient designs, improved road safety, and sustainable maintenance practices. It will link isolated communities to essential services such as education, healthcare, and markets, thereby reducing travel time and costs while creating economic opportunities.

ADB Director General for Central and West Asia, Yevgeniy Zhukov, emphasized the project’s significance for socioeconomic development, while ADB Senior Transport Specialist Seunghyun Kim highlighted efforts to enhance the climate resilience of the province’s infrastructure.

Since 1966, ADB has committed over $52 billion to Pakistan, supporting infrastructure, energy, food security, and transport.
