ISLAMABAD, Aug 23 (Alliance News): Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, Professor Ahsan Iqbal, announced the government’s plan to establish a state-of-the-art Teachers Training Center within two years.
Speaking at the launch of the District Education Performance Index-2023 on Friday, Iqbal emphasized that this initiative aims to enhance education quality and produce a workforce aligned with contemporary needs.
The project, originally initiated during the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) government’s previous tenure, faced delays due to political instability.
However, Iqbal assured that the center, developed in collaboration with provincial education departments, would be the best in South Asia.
The center will focus on critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving, and team learning skills, marking a significant shift from the traditional memorization-based education system.
“This will be a paradigm shift from memorization-based education,” Iqbal stated, adding that the initiative would also reform the current examination system. He stressed that memorization-based education is outdated in an era where innovation and creativity drive development.
Iqbal underscored the importance of improving education standards and human resource development as essential elements for national progress and prosperity. “Infrastructure development alone is insufficient,” he noted.
Drawing on global examples, Iqbal pointed out that no country has achieved significant development and prosperity without reaching at least a 90 percent literacy rate. “Development is not possible without achieving universal primary enrollment education targets,” he added.
The minister also highlighted challenges such as the lack of an export-led economy and ongoing political instability, which have hindered Pakistan’s progress. He lamented that despite the PML-N government’s past efforts, including Vision-2010 and Vision-2025, political instability has prevented these initiatives from achieving their full potential.
