ISLAMABAD, Aug 7 (Alliance News): Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing economic stability and promoting long-term growth during a meeting with the Ambassador of Finland to Pakistan, Hannu Ripatti, on Wednesday.

The minister shared updates on Pakistan’s economic performance, noting increases in tax collection, remittances, and foreign exchange reserves exceeding USD 9 billion. He also highlighted positive evaluations from international credit rating agencies, reflecting the stability of Pakistan’s economic environment, according to a press release from the finance ministry.

Senator Aurangzeb discussed the successful conclusion of the 9-month Standby Agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the recently finalized staff-level agreement for a 37-month IMF program.

He outlined ongoing initiatives, including the digitization of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to broaden the tax base, reforms in the energy sector, restructuring of state-owned enterprises (SOEs), and a focus on export-led growth. “These initiatives are aimed at enhancing economic stability and promoting long-term growth,” he said.

Ambassador Ripatti expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s economic reforms and noted the improved fiscal situation for Finnish companies operating in Pakistan. The minister thanked the ambassador for Finland’s continued support in renewing Pakistan’s GSP Plus status, which benefits the country’s export sector.
