Pakistan to Issue Diplomatic Notice Over India’s Suspension of Indus Waters Treaty

ISLAMABAD, 2 May (Alliance News): Pakistan has decided to issue a formal diplomatic notice to India over the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, officials confirmed on Thursday.

Sources in the Indus Commission revealed that following legal and constitutional consultations, Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Water Resources, and Ministry of Law have completed preliminary preparations. The notice, to be sent via regular diplomatic channels, will demand concrete reasons for India’s unilateral move.

Officials said Pakistan is also considering lodging a strong protest at international forums, aiming to highlight what it terms as India’s “water aggression.” The move is intended to strengthen Pakistan’s legal and moral stance before the global community.

“Pakistan has never violated the Indus Waters Treaty and has always adhered to international agreements,” an official source said. “We are hopeful that India will be forced to reconsider its decision.”

Authorities stressed that any further steps will be taken with the formal approval of the government and federal cabinet.

India’s recent decision to suspend the historic water-sharing agreement, which has governed river water distribution between the two countries since 1960, has raised alarm in Islamabad and drawn concerns from international observers.
