PM Orders Action Plan for PASSCO’s Privatization

ISLAMABAD, July 12 (Alliance News): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed officials to develop an action plan for privatizing the Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Cooperation (PASSCO).

This decision came during a meeting on Friday focused on the Ministry of National Food Security and Research and PASSCO.

At the meeting, the Prime Minister also directed the restructuring of the Wheat Board. He emphasized that the new structure should include representatives of farmers, the Land Information Management System, and PASSCO.

Sharif stressed the importance of taking effective steps to increase the yield of wheat and other crops. He asked the relevant authorities to devise an alternative strategy for wheat procurement by the federal government. This strategy should involve consultations with provincial governments, as well as the governments of Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and other relevant departments.

The participants were briefed on the terms of reference (ToRs) and the restructuring plans for the Wheat Board. The discussions also covered ways to increase crop yields and implement reforms in PASSCO.

Federal cabinet members Ahad Khan Cheema, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Rana Tanveer Hussain, Attaullah Tarar, and Ali Pervaiz Malik, along with Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission Jahanzeb Khan, PM’s Coordinator Rana Ehsan Afzal, and other senior officers attended the meeting.
