PM Shehbaz Sharif Reaffirms Commitment to Women in Science

ISLAMABAD, Feb 10 (Alliance News): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that empowering women and girls in science remains a national priority, with the government making all-out efforts to provide equal opportunities and create an enabling environment.

In his message on the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, the prime minister acknowledged the contributions of women in scientific discovery, innovation, and leadership.

He highlighted this year’s theme, “Charting Progress to Shape the Future: The Best is Yet to Come,” as a reminder of the nation’s achievements and the work ahead in fostering inclusivity and innovation.

Shehbaz Sharif stressed that equal participation of men and women in science and technology is crucial for economic development and societal progress. However, he noted that women remain underrepresented in these fields, with UNESCO statistics showing that women make up less than 30% of global researchers, and only 22% in fields like artificial intelligence.

Recognizing the importance of technological advancement, the government has prioritized initiatives that support women in STEM, including training in robotics, AI, and digital solutions, as well as scholarships and funding for women-led startups and research projects.
