President Gillani Calls for Coordinated Efforts to Address Population Growth

ISLAMABAD, March 14 (Alliance News): President Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani has emphasized the need for collective efforts, including input from provincial governments, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, to manage the country’s rising population.

Chairing a meeting on population management, the president highlighted the importance of implementing the national action plan effectively, stressing that provincial cooperation is essential to addressing the challenge.

The discussion followed the Supreme Court of Pakistan’s 2018 suo-moto action and recommendations by the Council of Common Interests.

President Gillani urged all stakeholders, including the private sector, to raise awareness and enhance access to family planning services.

The meeting, attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Health, reviewed the National Action Plan on Population, which was implemented from 2019 to 2024.

A revised plan for 2025-2030 has been developed and is awaiting approval in the upcoming Federal Task Force on Population meeting.
