ISLAMABAD, Sep 03 (Alliance News): Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani on Tuesday highlighted the urgent need to prioritize human development, invest in human capital, and tackle climate change challenges.
He stressed the importance of forming strong partnerships between government bodies, UN agencies, and civil society organizations to ensure an effective humanitarian response.
Addressing the launch event of the Pakistan Humanitarian Forum (PHF) annual report, Gilani praised INGOs for their significant contributions to Pakistan.
He acknowledged the consistent efforts of PHF and its member organizations in providing relief and support during difficult times.
Gilani emphasized that a nation’s true strength is demonstrated by its ability to empower marginalized and vulnerable communities.
Drawing from his personal experiences in South Punjab, he expressed his understanding of the struggles faced by these communities and their aspirations for progress.
He noted that inclusive development is both a moral and practical necessity for national progress.
This belief, rooted in the political ideology of former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, has guided his career, focusing on humanitarian values and the improvement of deprived communities.
Gilani commended PHF for its role in fostering a more inclusive and resilient Pakistan. He highlighted that the achievements noted in the Annual Report 2023 reflect the dedication and humanitarian commitment of PHF members.
Over 21.2 million beneficiaries across 152 districts have received assistance, with funding surpassing 450 million dollars.
This support has alleviated the suffering of flood-affected communities and laid the groundwork for sustainable development.
