ISLAMABAD, Aug 12 (Alliance News): The Federal Flood Commission (FFC) has reported that due to ongoing high temperatures in the Skardu catchment area and recent rainfall, the Indus River is currently experiencing a “Medium Flood” between Taunsa and Guddu, and a “Low Flood” between Tarbela and Chashma, as well as at the Sukkur Barrage. The Kabul River is also flowing at “Low Flood” levels near Nowshera.
According to the FFC’s daily report on Monday, all other major rivers in the Indus River System, including the Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej, are maintaining normal flow levels. The total live storage of the country’s major reservoirs—Tarbela, Mangla, and Chashma—stands at 10.509 million acre-feet (MAF), which is 77.53% of their total live storage capacity of 13.354 MAF.
The Flood Forecasting Division (FFD) in Lahore noted that an upper air cyclonic circulation over northern India has shifted, while a westerly wave has moved eastward away from northern Pakistan. A seasonal low is situated over northern Balochistan, and light to moderate moisture from both the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal is entering most parts of Pakistan.
For the next 24 hours, the FFD has forecast isolated thunderstorms with moderate intensity over Islamabad, Punjab (Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Lahore, Bahawalpur & D.G. Khan divisions), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Peshawar, Kohat, Bannu & D.I. Khan divisions), and Balochistan (Zhob, Sibbi, Nasirabad & Kalat divisions), as well as the upper catchments of all major rivers in the Indus River System.
