ISLAMABAD, Jan 17 (Alliance News): Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja announced in the National Assembly that Pakistan’s ICT services export remittances rose by 28%, hitting $1.86 billion in the first six months of the current fiscal year.
She attributed this significant growth to enhanced internet usage and speed nationwide while acknowledging user challenges and assuring ongoing efforts to address these issues.
The minister affirmed the functionality of services like WhatsApp and VPNs, emphasizing that Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) operates round-the-clock to register and resolve complaints.
She added that the government is expanding internet bandwidth by 562 MHz, alongside leveraging newly arrived submarine cables to improve connectivity.
Shaza Fatima highlighted initiatives like free VPN registration for the IT and freelancing sectors, with over 31,000 IPs registered, showcasing the government’s focus on fostering digital innovation and attracting foreign investments in IT and telecom.
