ISLAMABAD, Jan 13 (Alliance News): The Akhtar Hameed Khan National Centre for Rural Development (AHKNCRD) and the Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP) jointly launched an International Training Program on disaster management and climate change adaptation on Monday at the National Centre for Rural Development (NCRD).
The event, titled ‘Disaster Management and Climate Change Adaptation,’ saw participation from 10 CIRDAP member countries, including Pakistan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Indonesia, Nepal, and Iran. The ceremony was chaired by Director General of NCRD Israr Mohammad Khan, with the Director of CIRDAP, Zakirul Haq, also present.
Dignitaries attending the ceremony included former NCRD Director General Dr. Zafar Qadir, climate experts, and representatives from various institutions, emphasizing the significance of regional collaboration in tackling climate issues.
In his welcome address, DG NCRD Israr Mohammad Khan praised the initiative and outlined the urgency of addressing climate change impacts in member countries. He stressed the need for comprehensive disaster management strategies and shared learning among nations.
Zakirul Haq highlighted CIRDAP’s role in supporting member countries through knowledge-sharing and capacity-building efforts, aimed at fostering regional solutions for sustainable development and climate resilience.
The training program, which runs for ten days, includes field visits and in-depth sessions designed to provide participants with practical tools for effective disaster management and climate change adaptation.
