BAKU, Nov 14 (Alliance News) – Pakistan’s Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination has signed a four-year agreement with the Global Green Growth Initiative (GGGI) to support the country’s climate goals and sustainable development efforts from 2024 to 2028.
The agreement, part of Pakistan’s commitment to green growth, was signed by Secretary Aisha Humera Moriani and GGGI Deputy Director-General Helena McLeod at COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The agreement will focus on strengthening climate resilience, promoting sustainable agriculture, and fostering economic growth through green initiatives.
Romina Khurshid Alam, the Prime Minister’s climate advisor, expressed gratitude to GGGI for their support in helping Pakistan mobilize green finance, create policy frameworks, and encourage sustainable investments.
The Country Programme Framework aligns with GGGI’s Strategy 2030 and Pakistan’s national climate priorities, targeting critical issues like water scarcity, deforestation, and energy inefficiency.
Earlier at COP29, Pakistan held an event to unveil its “NDC Technology Roadmap for Waste and Water,” a strategic plan aimed at meeting the country’s climate targets in the waste and water sectors under the Paris Agreement.
Alam emphasized the roadmap’s role in linking Pakistan’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) with large-scale investment opportunities.
Alam also discussed the importance of technology, regulatory frameworks, and funding in achieving Pakistan’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and advancing its climate agenda.
