ISLAMABAD, Jul 24 (Alliance News): Pakistan’s national space agency, SUPARCO (Space and Atmosphere Research Commission), has announced the winners of its “Lunar Astrophotography Contest,” held to celebrate International Moon Day.
Astrophotographers from across the country participated in this exciting competition. The contest, which focused on the theme “Illuminating the Shadows,” received a large number of entries. Dr. Ahmed Naeem secured the top position with his impressive lunar photographs. Rayan Imran and Adeel Shafiq were awarded second place for their outstanding contributions, while Abdul Wahab claimed third place.
To enter, participants submitted geotagged images of the moon, including their names, locations, and the time the photos were taken by the deadline of July 21 at midnight. The contest was part of SUPARCO’s Space Education and Awareness Drive (SEAD), a program designed to engage students and the public with space-related activities and competitions.
International Moon Day, celebrated on July 20, marks the anniversary of the first human moon landing during the Apollo 11 mission. The day serves as an opportunity to promote public education about the moon and raise awareness about sustainable lunar exploration and the need for international cooperation.
Declared an official UN international day in 2021, International Moon Day aims to reflect on the progress made in space exploration and inspire future missions. For centuries, humanity has looked up to the moon with wonder, and today’s celebrations honor past achievements while looking forward to future endeavors in space exploration.
As global interest in lunar exploration continues to grow, International Moon Day acts as both a tribute to past accomplishments and a motivator for future space missions.
