ISLAMABAD, Aug 27 (Alliance News): The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted that the ongoing spell of torrential rains will persist in the southern and central regions of the country throughout this week.
A deep depression currently positioned north of Gujrat, India, is expected to reach Pakistan’s eastern Sindh region within the next 24 hours. This weather system is driving strong monsoon currents into southern parts of the country. Additionally, a westerly wave is likely to affect upper regions of Pakistan from August 29 onwards.
From August 27-31, rain-wind/thundershowers with occasional heavy falls are anticipated across various regions, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Karachi, Hyderabad, Quetta, Peshawar, and many others. The PMD warns of potential pluvial flooding in low-lying areas, flash floods in local streams and hill torrents, urban flooding in major cities, landslides in hilly regions, and coastal flooding along the Sindh-Makran coast.
The PMD has also issued advisories for farmers, travelers, and tourists to take precautions and for fishermen in Sindh and Balochistan to avoid venturing into the open sea during this period. Authorities have been urged to remain vigilant and take necessary measures to prevent any untoward situations.
