ISLAMABAD, Aug 23 (Alliance News): The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a forecast for torrential rains across the southern half of the country from August 26 to 29.
A low-pressure system currently located over West Bengal is expected to move westwards and may reach southern Pakistan by August 25.
This system is likely to bring strong monsoon currents into the region, leading to widespread rain and thunderstorms.
Under the influence of this weather system, rain-wind/thundershowers with scattered heavy falls and isolated very heavy downpours are expected in several regions, including Karachi, Hyderabad, and other parts of Sindh and Balochistan.
The rain is forecasted to continue intermittently from the night of August 25 through August 29, with occasional gaps.
In addition to Sindh and Balochistan, parts of Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan are also expected to experience heavy rain and thunderstorms during this period.
The PMD has warned of possible urban flooding in low-lying areas, flash floods in local streams and nullahs, and landslides in hilly regions such as Murree, Galliyat, and parts of Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
The PMD has advised farmers to plan their activities accordingly and travelers and tourists to exercise caution. Authorities have been urged to remain alert and take necessary precautions to prevent any untoward incidents.
