SDPI and Danish Embassy Launch Phase 2 of “Unlocking Carbon Markets in Pakistan” Initiative

ISLAMABAD, Nov 12 (Alliance News) – The Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI), in collaboration with the Danish Embassy in Pakistan, launched the second phase of the “Unlocking the Potential of Carbon Markets in Pakistan” initiative.

The announcement was made at a high-profile reception attended by delegates, diplomats, and policymakers, according to a press release issued Tuesday.

In his address, Ambassador of Denmark Jakob Linulf emphasized that the project builds on an existing foundation that has strengthened Pakistan’s climate policy and encouraged collaboration across government and private sectors.

He highlighted that this new phase will empower Pakistani industries, especially small and medium enterprises (SMEs), to access carbon markets, promoting green growth and climate resilience.

The initial phase, launched in 2023, successfully trained over 950 professionals in carbon trading, fostered public-private collaboration, and supported Pakistan’s carbon market policy, set for presentation at COP29.

This second phase aims to further expand SME involvement in carbon markets, partnering with chambers of commerce and industry bodies to facilitate project proposals and market alignment.

By 2025, the initiative aims to train over 100 companies, develop a project pipeline, and hold national dialogues on carbon trading to position Pakistan as a key player in global climate initiatives.
