Suki Kinari Hydropower Station’s First Unit Begins Power Generation

ISLAMABAD, Aug 12 (Alliance News): The Suki Kinari Hydropower Station, a major project under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), has successfully synchronized its first unit and started generating electricity.

This marks a significant step toward the Commercial Operation Date (COD) for China Energy Overseas Investment Co., Ltd.’s largest overseas hydropower project.

According to a press release issued on Monday, the Suki Kinari Hydropower Station, equipped with four impulse turbine units and a total installed capacity of 884 MW, is one of the key priorities of the Belt and Road Initiative.

The first unit, with a capacity of 221 MW, is now supplying clean energy to local users through power transmission lines.

Mr. He Xiongfei, Chairman of SK Hydro (Private) Limited, highlighted that the project has now entered its final critical phase. He expressed gratitude to all stakeholders and team members for their collaborative efforts. He also emphasized that the successful synchronization of the first unit signals the project’s nearing completion and its upcoming COD.

Once fully operational, the Suki Kinari Hydropower Station is expected to generate up to 3.212 billion KWH of electricity annually, providing affordable clean energy to more than 1 million households across Pakistan.
