KARACHI, Feb 19 (Alliance News): A powerful westerly weather system is set to affect large parts of Pakistan from today until February 22, with significant rainfall and snowfall expected in northern regions, according to meteorologist Jawad Memon.
The system is likely to impact 70 to 80 northern areas, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
Memon stated that snowfall is expected in mountainous regions, while several areas may witness moderate to heavy rainfall.
Balochistan is also forecasted to receive substantial rain, with snowfall in Quetta, Ziarat, Zhob, Qila Saifullah, and Khuzdar. Coastal areas like Gwadar, Pasni, Turbat, and Ormara may experience light to moderate showers, along with hailstorms in some parts.
Punjab is expected to receive good rainfall between February 19 and 21, particularly in central and southern regions, with two to three rain spells predicted.
Islamabad and its surroundings are also likely to witness multiple rain spells during this period. However, Karachi is not expected to receive rain but may experience partly cloudy skies.
The westerly winds are expected to reduce dry and dusty conditions while increasing humidity levels. As the system subsides, a cold wave is likely to affect northern regions of the country.
