Germany to Boost Support for Pakistan’s Renewable Energy and Climate Initiatives

ISLAMABAD, Aug 22 (Alliance News): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met with German Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, Svenja Schulze, on Thursday, expressing Pakistan’s strong desire to rejuvenate its partnership with Germany, restoring it to its former glory.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz acknowledged Germany’s longstanding support for Pakistan’s socioeconomic development and praised the mutually beneficial commercial and economic ties that have historically existed between the two nations. He specifically highlighted Germany’s significant role in Pakistan’s industrial development.

Prime Minister Shehbaz reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to sustainable development, climate change mitigation, and economic growth. He outlined his government’s priorities, including implementing structural reforms aimed at reviving the country’s economy.

Minister Schulze conveyed the greetings of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and reaffirmed Germany’s dedication to strengthening bilateral relations with Pakistan, particularly in areas such as trade, investment, and development cooperation. She also expressed Germany’s keen interest in increasing its support for Pakistan’s renewable energy sector and climate resilience initiatives.

The two leaders discussed various ways to enhance bilateral economic cooperation, including expanding trade, investment, IT and technology transfer, and the export of skilled labor. They also exchanged views on key regional and global issues, such as the situations in Gaza and Ukraine.

Minister Schulze extended an invitation to Prime Minister Shehbaz on behalf of Chancellor Scholz to attend the Hamburg Sustainability Conference in October.

The meeting was attended by senior officials from both sides, including Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, as well as ministers for planning, economic affairs, commerce, and the minister of state for IT.
