ISLAMABAD, Sept 27 (Alliance News) – The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Islamabad hosted an elegant and culturally rich diplomatic reception on September 26, 2024, to commemorate the 79th Anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence.
The event, held at the local Hotel, was attended by over 400 guests, including prominent figures from Pakistan’s political, business, and diplomatic circles, adding vibrancy to the evening’s celebrations.
Federal Minister for Housing and Works, Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
He was joined by State Minister for Finance, Revenue, and Power, Mr. Ali Pervaiz Malik, among other notable dignitaries.
The diverse gathering included members of the diplomatic corps, Pakistani government officials, politicians, business leaders, media professionals, and cultural enthusiasts, all of whom contributed to the success of the evening.
The Embassy was decorated with an artistic blend of cultural symbols, including Batik fabric, floral arrangements, and ornaments showcasing Indonesia’s rich heritage.
Posters of Indonesia’s founding father, President Sukarno, alongside Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, adorned the venue, celebrating the shared historical values of Indonesia and Pakistan.
The decoration offered a visual representation of the close diplomatic ties between the two nations.
Celebrating “New Nusantara, Advanced Indonesia”
The theme of the reception was “New Nusantara, Advanced Indonesia,” a reference to the current developmental efforts across the Indonesian archipelago. Under the leadership of President Joko Widodo, Indonesia has embarked on a transformative journey, improving the country’s infrastructure and connectivity.
A major highlight of these efforts is the development of Indonesia’s new capital city, Nusantara, located on Kalimantan Island.
This shift aims to relieve the overpopulated Jakarta and promote more balanced regional development.
Speaking on the occasion, Indonesian Chargé d’Affaires Rahmat Hindiarta Kusuma emphasized the significance of these infrastructure projects in fostering both national unity and economic prosperity.
Wearing traditional Javanese attire, Kusuma remarked, “Infrastructure projects across Indonesia are critical, as the Government of Indonesia will never let certain parts of the country be left behind.
Improving connectivity and infrastructure strengthens not only the economy but also the unity of Indonesia.”
Kusuma further noted that, although Indonesia may not yet be considered a global role model, it stands as an example of political stability, national unity, and economic development.
He highlighted these issues during his visits to chambers of commerce, universities, and think tanks in Pakistan, underlining the opportunities for both countries to learn from each other.
Strengthening Bilateral Economic Ties
In addition to the cultural aspects of the evening, the event also focused on economic cooperation between Indonesia and Pakistan.
Rahmat Hindiarta Kusuma encouraged the Pakistani business community to explore the untapped opportunities in trade and investment between the two nations.
He invited Pakistani business leaders to participate in the Indonesia and South and Central Asia Business Forum (INASCA) on October 7, 2024, and the prestigious Trade Expo Indonesia, scheduled for October 9-12, 2024.
These events will provide platforms for deepening commercial ties and exploring investment opportunities, contributing to the economic growth of both nations.
Pakistan’s Message of Solidarity and Friendship
During his address, Federal Minister Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada reiterated the long-standing friendship between Indonesia and Pakistan, noting that both countries share firm views on regional and international issues as members of organizations such as the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
Pirzada expressed optimism about the continued growth of bilateral relations, particularly in economic cooperation. “On behalf of the Prime Minister of Pakistan, I extend congratulations to Indonesia on its 79th Independence Day.
May the ties between our nations grow stronger,” he concluded, marking the significance of the occasion.
Honoring Global Challenges and Peace Efforts
The evening commenced with a solemn moment of silence to honor the lives lost in Gaza, the occupied Palestinian territories, and surrounding regions.
This respectful gesture underscored the shared commitment of Indonesia and Pakistan to peace and justice in the Middle East.
Following the moment of silence, the national anthems of Indonesia and Pakistan were played, reinforcing the spirit of solidarity between the two nations.
A cake-cutting ceremony soon followed, symbolizing the deep-rooted friendship and shared aspirations for peace, prosperity, and progress.
Cultural Highlights: The Saman Dance and Fashion Show
One of the evening’s highlights was a mesmerizing performance of the “Saman Dance” from Indonesia’s Aceh Province. Performed by Indonesian students studying in Islamabad, the dancers sat in a row, clapping their hands, slapping their chests, and moving gracefully in sync.
The rhythm and precision of the performance captivated the audience, earning enthusiastic applause.
