Pakistan and Netherlands Strengthen Ties with Focus on Human Trafficking and Cricket

ISLAMABAD, Aug 20 (Alliance News): Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi welcomed the Netherlands’ Ambassador, Henny de Vries, on Tuesday at the Ministry of Interior to discuss mutual interests, particularly in combating human trafficking and enhancing cricket ties between the two countries.

Naqvi stressed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening relations with the Netherlands, especially in preventing human trafficking.

He highlighted the need for international cooperation, noting, “Human smugglers are a powerful mafia, and no country can tackle them alone.” The conversation also touched on the upcoming visit of an Italian team to Pakistan to further these collaborative efforts.

The meeting also addressed support for Afghan refugees, with Pakistan reaffirming its dedication to hosting displaced populations. In the realm of sports, both sides discussed plans to promote cricket between the two nations.

Ambassador de Vries congratulated Naqvi on his nomination as president of the Asian Cricket Council and emphasized the importance of sports diplomacy. He expressed hope that closer cricket ties would allow the Netherlands team to learn from Pakistan’s experience.

The meeting concluded with both parties agreeing to enhance cooperation in various fields, further strengthening the relationship between Pakistan and the Netherlands. Federal Interior Secretary Khurram Ali Agha and Additional Home Secretary Rifat Mukhtar Raja also attended the meeting.
