ISLAMABAD, Dec 10 (Alliance News): Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi met with Acting U.S. Ambassador Natalie Baker and INL Country Director Line Nelson on Tuesday to discuss strengthening Pakistan-U.S. bilateral relations and enhancing collaboration in law enforcement and security.
During the meeting, Ambassador Baker expressed condolences over the recent martyrdom of police and Rangers personnel in Islamabad.
The discussions covered key areas, including preparations for hosting the ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan and efforts to bolster law enforcement cooperation.
Minister Naqvi outlined Pakistan’s vision to modernize the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) based on the FBI model, a move for which the U.S. pledged support.
The U.S. also committed to assisting in modernizing Pakistan’s National Forensic Agency to tackle contemporary challenges effectively.
Naqvi emphasized prioritizing the enhancement of law enforcement agencies’ capabilities and equipping civil armed forces with modern tools to counter terrorism and handle emergencies.
Ambassador Baker reaffirmed the U.S.’s support in these efforts, commending Pakistan’s dedication to improving law enforcement and lauding the successful organization of a police officers’ passing-out parade.
The meeting highlighted the enduring ties between Pakistan and the U.S., focusing on shared goals for security and cooperation.
Federal Interior Secretary Khurram Ali Agha and Additional Interior Secretary Riffat Mukhtar Raja also attended the meeting.
