ISLAMABAD, Aug 08 (Alliance News): Minister for Power Division, Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, announced the formation of a Task Force on Power Sector Reforms, following the directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. This Task Force aims to review and improve various aspects of the power sector.
Speaking to the media alongside Muhammad Ali, the Co-Chairman of the Task Force, after its first meeting, Leghari emphasized the critical role of the power sector in driving the economy. He stated that the government is dedicated to implementing reforms to enhance the sector’s efficiency.
Leghari noted that since coming to power, the current government, under PM Shehbaz Sharif’s leadership, has identified 20 to 22 key areas for reform in the power sector. The Prime Minister has appointed Leghari as the Chairman of the Task Force, which will closely examine and address all issues related to these reforms. He assured that all relevant government institutions will work together to ensure these reforms are effectively implemented.
Highlighting the urgency of the situation, Leghari stated, “We have limited time, and it’s crucial to deliver tangible benefits to the nation and consumers.”
Co-Chairman Muhammad Ali added that the Task Force will meet regularly, with daily meetings planned to expedite the reform process. He mentioned that the Terms of Reference (TORs) for the Task Force have already been established, and they will also focus on issues related to Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and reducing the cost of electricity generation.
