Telenor Leads the Charge: Green Energy and Shared Networks Key to Pakistan’s Digital Growth

ISLAMABAD, Aug 8 (Alliance News): The CEO of Telenor Pakistan, Khurrum Ashfaque, highlighted the importance of shared network infrastructure and green energy initiatives in reducing business costs and driving innovation. Speaking at the GSMA Digital Nation Summit, Ashfaque emphasized the need for collaboration to boost Pakistan’s economic growth through faster digital transformation.

He stated, “Investing in shared networks and green energy not only helps manage costs but also fuels the innovation required to connect the unconnected, pushing Pakistan closer to its digital goals.”

Telenor Pakistan is playing a crucial role in the country’s journey towards becoming a digital nation, with significant efforts in reducing its carbon footprint through energy-efficient solutions and lower power consumption.

The company’s commitment to sustainability and innovation serves as a model for the industry, showcasing the impact of digital connectivity and environmental responsibility.

The GSMA also launched a report titled “Realising Pakistan’s Aspiration to Become a Digital Nation,” which outlines Pakistan’s progress in mobile connectivity and smartphone adoption.

The report notes that 81% of adults now live in areas with 3G or 4G coverage, a sharp increase from 15% in 2010.

However, despite the rise in smartphone ownership to 63% by the end of 2023, only 23% of the population subscribes to mobile internet services, indicating a significant gap in connectivity.
