Islamabad Food Authority Reports Surge in Inspections and Enforcement Measures

ISLAMABAD, Jul 30 (Alliance News): The Islamabad Food Authority (IFA) has significantly ramped up its activities between March 2023 and June 2024, conducting 22,221 inspections of food establishments. During this period, the IFA issued 8,089 improvement notices, imposed fines on 660 businesses, and sealed 300 establishments for severe violations.

Dr. Tahira Saddique, Deputy Director Operations (DDO) of IFA, revealed these figures in an interview with Alliance News.

She noted that the IFA also organized 24 awareness seminars aimed at educating both the public and food vendors on food safety standards.

A critical review meeting of the Islamabad Food Authority, chaired by Director Irfan Nawaz Memon, was held to assess the authority’s recent performance and plan future actions. Director Memon underscored the urgency of expediting the licensing process for food businesses and enhancing the tools available to IFA staff for comprehensive inspections.

Memon stressed the need for swift actions against vendors selling unhealthy food and reiterated the importance of safeguarding public health. The meeting highlighted the ongoing efforts and strategic plans of the Islamabad Food Authority to ensure the safety and quality of the city’s food supply.

Deputy Director Dr. Tahira Saddique provided a comprehensive briefing during the meeting, presenting the latest figures and outlining the IFA’s activities and achievements over the recent months.
