Pakistan Revamps Polio Eradication Program to Achieve Polio-Free Status by Mid-Next Year

ISLAMABAD, Nov 4 (Alliance News): Prime Minister’s Focal Person for Polio Eradication, Ayesha Raza Farooq, announced on Sunday that Pakistan’s polio eradication program has undergone a comprehensive overhaul as part of a National Emergency Action Plan, aiming to make Pakistan polio-free by mid-next year.

In an interview with a private news channel, Farooq shared that the program’s redesign covers all critical components, including surveillance, communication, and field operations, following directives from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

This revamped approach integrates efforts from federal, provincial, and district authorities in a concerted push against polio.

“Polio eradication is a shared responsibility, and we are fully committed to supporting our healthcare workers and security personnel,” she emphasized.

Farooq also highlighted the implementation of strict measures to ensure precise data collection by field staff.

Expressing optimism, Farooq stated, “We have a clear roadmap, and provincial chief ministers are at the forefront of a unified national campaign to achieve zero-polio status soon.”
