United Nations, Sep 13 (Alliance News): UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has condemned the recent Israeli airstrike on a school in Gaza’s Nuseirat, which was being used as a shelter, calling the continued lack of protection for Palestinian civilians “unconscionable.”
The attack killed six UNRWA staff members and at least 12 other civilians, including women and children.
The Israeli Defense Forces claimed they targeted a command-and-control center at the site, but Guterres called for an independent investigation to ensure accountability. He emphasized the need for all parties to respect international humanitarian law and protect civilians.
The UN Secretary-General reiterated his call for a ceasefire and the unconditional release of hostages held in Gaza, urging an end to the violence.
Despite the conflict, UN-administered polio vaccination efforts have continued, with nearly 530,000 children inoculated in Gaza.
Additionally, the World Health Organization (WHO), in collaboration with the UAE, organized a medical evacuation for 252 people from Gaza, including severely injured patients and their companions, for specialized care.
