Pakistan Plans Gender Digital Divide Policy to Boost Women’s Tech Access

ISLAMABAD, Dec 5 (Alliance News): The Pakistani government is developing a comprehensive Gender Digital Divide Policy aimed at improving women’s access to the digital economy.

An official from the Ministry of IT emphasized the government’s commitment to bridging the digital gender gap.

“Women’s access to technology and the internet is essential for their empowerment, which can be achieved through the provision of digital devices and internet connectivity,” the official said.

The government is addressing barriers that limit women’s use of mobile phones and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) to foster their inclusion in the digital space.

“Digitalization can empower women and help integrate them into mainstream politics,” the official added.

The Prime Minister’s Free Laptop Scheme is already contributing significantly to enhancing digital access. Plans for the Smartphones for All Policy are also underway, aiming to make affordable smartphones available to the public.
