Sharif’s Digital Dream: AI-Powered Customs Reform Takes Center Stage

ISLAMABAD, July 11 (Alliance News): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has urged the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and Pakistan Customs to harness technology, including artificial intelligence and high-tech equipment, to streamline customs operations and maximize duty collection.

Chairing a meeting in Islamabad, the PM emphasized the need to eliminate corruption, reduce unnecessary hurdles, and ensure transparency through digitization.

He directed authorities to conduct third-party audits, establish a project management unit, and resolve issues related to mis-invoicing and under-invoicing.

The meeting was informed that Pakistan Customs has achieved significant progress, with 72.4% of imports and exports cleared through the green channel and Rs240 billion in additional revenue collected through valuation controls.
