ISLAMABAD, Nov 26 (Alliance News): Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, Professor Ahsan Iqbal, emphasized the government’s commitment to transforming Pakistan’s memorization-based education system into a modern, skill-oriented framework.
Speaking at the National Curriculum Summit, he announced plans to develop a world-class curriculum in collaboration with stakeholders and experts.
The summit, organized by the National Curriculum Council (NCC) and the Inter-Board Coordination Commission (IBCC), aimed to review and revamp existing curricula to integrate technology and skills.
Ahsan Iqbal stressed the importance of equipping youth with modern education to enable them to compete internationally and contribute to national development.
He also highlighted the government’s plan to establish a state-of-the-art Teachers’ Training Center, which would focus on improving education quality and producing professionals equipped with critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
The project, initiated during the previous tenure of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government, was delayed due to political instability but remains a priority.
The minister criticized the outdated rote-learning approach and emphasized the need for innovation and creativity to drive national progress.
He advocated for a balanced medium of instruction, blending Urdu and English—referred to as “Urdish”—to combine conceptual understanding with global competence.
Iqbal reaffirmed that the key to national prosperity lies in enhancing education standards and investing in human resource development, describing educational power as a fundamental driver of societal progress.
