ISLAMABAD, April 17 (Alliance News): A thought-provoking seminar titled “Journalism and Artificial Intelligence” was held at the Alliance Good Governance Foundation, in collaboration with Meri Pehchan Welfare Foundation, to raise awareness about the effective use of AI tools in the media for accurate and faster information dissemination.
The seminar aimed to explore how artificial intelligence is revolutionizing modern journalism by enhancing newsroom productivity, streamlining tasks, and transforming storytelling methods.
Prominent IT expert Sabia Ahmed served as the keynote speaker and conducted an interactive training session. He explained how AI tools are enabling journalists to accomplish hours-long tasks in just minutes.
Ahmed demonstrated the use of Gboard’s Voice Typing, which helps convert spoken words into written text instantly in Urdu and English, making it an ideal solution for transcribing long interviews and speeches.
He also introduced tools such as Descript and Google Recorder, which can transcribe audio and video content with high precision, allowing journalists to obtain clean transcripts of press briefings and interviews quickly.
For content creation, ChatGPT was presented as a powerful assistant capable of summarizing transcripts, generating news stories, and converting content into social media posts or background-rich scripts.
In addition, Ahmed highlighted the role of Teleprompter apps in assisting video journalists in delivering smooth and professional recordings. He stressed the importance of accuracy in journalism and encouraged the use of Google Fact Check Explorer to verify facts before publication.
He also discussed the potential of tools like Eleven Labs, which can replicate voices and convert text into speech—an innovation opening new doors for voice-overs in digital storytelling.
Participants, including journalists and students, responded enthusiastically, appreciating the practical knowledge and clarity of the demonstrations. Many expressed interest in integrating these AI tools into their daily workflows.
Officials from the Digital Media Association, including Bilal Niazi and Qalb-e-Hassan, announced plans to hold similar training workshops regularly to equip media professionals with essential digital skills.
Convergence Alliance representative Dr. Tariq Khan thanked the participants and underscored the growing importance of AI. “The coming days will be defined by AI integration. Now is the time to focus on these tools if we want to stay globally competitive,” he concluded.
