ISLAMABAD, Jan 13 (Alliance News): The Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan, Akamatsu Shuichi, inaugurated two electricity projects on Monday aimed at improving the quality of life for rural communities in Mandi Bahauddin district, Punjab.

The projects, managed by the Hana Development Council, were funded by Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Program, with a total financial assistance of 92,307 USD.

The first grant of 42,818 USD was provided in 2019 for sustainable electricity to eight communities, and a second grant of 49,489 USD in 2022 extended the electricity facility to an additional seven communities.

Ambassador Akamatsu Shuichi congratulated Hameeda Waheeduddin, President of Hana Development Council, for the successful completion of the projects, highlighting the positive impact on the daily lives of thousands of people.

He emphasized that the initiative is more than just the installation of power lines—it’s about empowering communities and driving economic growth by providing access to modern energy services.

The ceremony was attended by officials from the Japanese Embassy, members of the NGO, and local community leaders. Japan’s continued support, according to Akamatsu, will further strengthen the relationship between Japan and Pakistan.
