ISLAMABAD, Sep 11 (Alliance News): Federal Minister for Information, Broadcasting, and National Heritage, Attaullah Tarar, informed the National Assembly on Wednesday that 93 passport offices have been established at Pakistani missions abroad, while no such office operates in Afghanistan.
The setup of these offices is based on the population of overseas Pakistanis.
During the Question Hour, the minister also addressed a fire incident at the weekly H-9 Bazaar in Islamabad, where 625 stalls were destroyed, causing an estimated financial loss of Rs 280 million. An inquiry, led by the Deputy Commissioner, was submitted to the Prime Minister’s Office.
Tarar mentioned that similar incidents occurred three times in the past three years, resulting in heavy financial losses. The prime minister has directed the CDA/MCI to develop a Fire Safety Plan and conduct monthly fire safety audits in line with Islamabad Fire Prevention and Life Safety Regulations 2010. The minister further highlighted plans for capacity-building programs for firefighting personnel and procurement of necessary safety equipment.
