PARACHINAR, Sept 23 ( Alliance News): Clashes between rival tribes in Kurram district have resulted in at least five fatalities and numerous injuries as of Sunday.
The ongoing conflict, which has persisted for two days, erupted over land ownership disputes and the construction of trenches in Boshehra and surrounding areas.
According to police sources, intense gunfire broke out in the Balishkhel area as tribesmen engaged in the violent exchange.
The clashes have led to casualties on both sides, exacerbating an already tense situation. In a related incident, a market in Sadda Bazaar belonging to one of the tribes was destroyed by an explosion, fortunately without any casualties.
Residents of the Bhagan tribe have blocked the main Parachinar-Peshawar road, creating significant travel disruptions.
Tribal elders from the Turi-Bangash community have called on authorities to intervene swiftly to resolve the conflict and restore law and order in the district.
National Assembly member Engineer Hamid Hussain and parliamentary leader of the Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) organized a protest sit-in outside the Parachinar Press Club to highlight the escalating violence.
They demanded immediate action against those responsible for the unrest.
Land disputes have historically plagued the region, often leading to violence and disruptions in daily life. Local leaders have urged for peaceful resolutions and the restoration of lasting peace.
Former federal minister Sajid Hussain Turi met with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, expressing serious concerns about the rising violence and calling for urgent efforts to stabilize Kurram district.
The governor criticized the provincial government for its failure to manage the security situation effectively.
In response to the crisis, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has directed the Home & Tribal Affairs Department to engage with local authorities to find a permanent solution.
A grand jirga is proposed to include tribal elders, national and provincial assembly members, and local government representatives to address the demands of the warring parties and submit proposals to the provincial government for lasting resolution.
