Erdogan Receives Guard of Honour in Islamabad, Begins Official Visit

ISLAMABAD, Feb 13 (Alliance News): Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was accorded a guard of honour at the Prime Minister’s House upon his arrival in Pakistan for a two-day official visit.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif warmly received President Erdogan and First Lady Emine Erdogan with a formal salute.

The national anthems of both nations were played, and the prime minister introduced the visiting leader to federal cabinet members. Erdogan’s cabinet members were also present on the occasion.

Later, Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir met with the Turkish president and extended greetings. The Turkish leader was further honoured with a flypast by F-16 fighter jets.

President Erdogan, accompanied by the First Lady and a delegation of investors and business leaders, landed at Noor Khan Airbase late last night, where President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz personally welcomed him with a 21-gun salute.

The visit focuses on strengthening bilateral relations and economic cooperation. Erdogan will co-chair the seventh Pakistan-Turkiye High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council (HLSCC) meeting with PM Shehbaz. The session will conclude with a joint declaration, along with the signing of key agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs). Both leaders will also address a joint press conference.

President Erdogan is set to hold separate meetings with President Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz. Additionally, he will address the Pakistan-Turkiye Business and Investment Forum, attended by leading investors and business figures from both countries.

The HLSCC serves as the highest decision-making platform for bilateral cooperation, overseeing multiple joint standing committees in sectors including trade, investment, defence, energy, education, and technology. The last HLSCC meeting was held in Islamabad in February 2020.

Pakistan and Turkiye share deep historical and brotherly ties. Erdogan’s visit and the HLSCC session are expected to further strengthen these relations and expand multi-sectoral collaboration.
