ISLAMABAD, Dec 5 (Alliance News): The Center for Afghanistan, Middle East, and Africa (CAMEA) hosted its fourth working session, titled “Transforming Regional Dynamics and Architecture: Pakistan’s Posture.
Former Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar, now Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, delivered the keynote address.
Amina Khan, CAMEA Director, highlighted shifting regional dynamics influenced by great power rivalries, developments in Afghanistan, and South-Central Asian connectivity.
She stressed Pakistan’s need to adjust its diplomatic strategies while safeguarding national interests.
Hina Rabbani Khar, in her address, noted the lack of effective regional cooperation in South Asia and emphasized learning from historical and geographical constants.
She criticized global powers for failing to uphold accountability in conflicts like Gaza.
Ambassador Asif Durrani focused on Afghanistan’s fragile stability, lauding reduced corruption under the Taliban while condemning bans on women’s education and work.
He stressed Pakistan’s role in counterterrorism dialogue with the Taliban and addressing India’s destabilizing actions.
Speakers like Kawa Hassan and Haroon Sharif analyzed Middle Eastern geopolitical shifts and economic connectivity in West Asia.
They emphasized addressing Palestinian statehood issues and leveraging proximity for economic growth.
Michael Kugelman and Leo Wigger highlighted climate change as a critical challenge and stressed the need for greater regional connectivity, noting untapped investment potential in South Asia.
