ISLAMABAD, May 14 (Alliance News): Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi on Wednesday reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transform Pakistan Railways into a symbol of national pride, emphasizing strict action against corruption, inefficiency, and mismanagement.
Chairing a high-level meeting, the minister said, “Our objective is not just to enhance the department’s performance, but also to root out all forms of corruption and systemic issues, as per the special directives of the Prime Minister.”
He stressed the significance of employee welfare, stating, “We will ensure the protection of our employees’ rights. They are the driving force behind Pakistan’s development, and their progress is directly linked to the nation’s progress.”
To strengthen internal oversight, the minister announced plans to empower the Vigilance Department further and implement strict accountability measures. “Transparency and accountability will be ensured in every department, and any individual involved in corrupt practices will face consequences,” he asserted.
Abbasi made it clear that only competent and hard-working individuals would remain part of the railway workforce. “Incompetence, laziness, and nepotism will not be tolerated,” he warned.
He instructed all Divisional Superintendents to ensure timely train operations, stating, “Punctuality is not just operational—it is crucial to public trust in the railway system.”
The minister promised swift reforms, saying that within a few months, visible improvements would be made, and all forms of inefficiency and corruption would be eliminated. He also announced third-party evaluations for all procurement processes to guarantee transparency and quality.
“Passengers deserve clean environments and hygienic food. Any negligence in these areas will not be tolerated,” he added.
