Heavy Rains Lash Punjab, PDMA Issues Weather Alert Across Provinces

PESHAWAR, 2 May (Alliance News): The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued a weather alert warning of continued heavy rains and thunderstorms across Lahore and other parts of the province.

The authority confirmed that two people lost their lives and 24 were injured in rain-related incidents on Monday night.

According to the PDMA, stormy weather is expected to persist until May 4 in key areas including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sargodha, and Dera Ghazi Khan. The Multan, Sahiwal, and Bahawalpur divisions are also likely to be affected.

Authorities also warned of potential lightning strikes over the next three days and the risk of landslides in the hilly areas of Murree and Galiyat due to continued rainfall.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department reported that parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) will experience partly cloudy weather, with rain and thunderstorms forecast in several districts. Peshawar recorded 30°C, with temperatures expected to rise to 35°C, and a humidity level of 55%. Strong winds and thunderstorms are also expected in parts of KP.

In Balochistan, weather remained mostly dry and moderate, but southern districts such as Zhob, Musa Khel, and Barkhan may see light rain by evening or night.

Sindh, including Karachi, is under the influence of a western weather system. Light showers are likely in Hyderabad, Matiari, Sukkur, Tharparkar, and nearby regions until May 5. Karachi may experience gusty winds, along with warm and humid conditions.

The Met Office further noted that this weather system is expected to pull moisture from the Arabian Sea starting May 5, possibly intensifying rainfall in parts of Sindh.

The ongoing unseasonal rains in the province are being seen as an unusual weather event, and officials are monitoring the situation closely.
