ISLAMABAD, Jan 14 (Alliance News): The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) to approach the US ambassador in Pakistan to inquire why the Prime Minister’s letter to US President Joe Biden regarding the release of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui has gone unanswered.
In a written order, the court highlighted the apparent disregard for diplomatic norms in the absence of a response.
The IHC directed MoFA to ensure that the US ambassador, whether permanent or acting, is contacted by the close of business tomorrow to ascertain the reasons behind this.
The court further instructed MoFA to include details of compliance with this directive and the US ambassador’s response in its official reply. MoFA acknowledged that no reply had been received to either the Prime Minister’s original letter or subsequent reminders sent by Pakistan’s Embassy in the US.
The IHC also ordered MoFA to provide records of the reminder sent and any response from the White House as part of its compliance with the order.
