ISLAMABAD, Dec 4 (Alliance News): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar on Wednesday briefed diplomats about the recent protests by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), emphasizing the government’s efforts to secure Islamabad’s Red Zone.
Dar highlighted the enactment of the Peaceful Assembly and Public Order Act, 2024, which restricts protests in the Red Zone without prior permission.
He explained the government’s actions were in line with a court directive barring PTI from holding demonstrations in the area.
The government had offered PTI an alternative protest site in Sangjani, but the party insisted on entering the Red Zone, Dar said.
He accused PTI of scheduling protests on critical occasions, such as during the Belarusian president’s visit and previous significant events, to disrupt diplomatic activities.
Dar reaffirmed that law enforcement agencies used only water cannons and tear gas for crowd control and emphasized the federal government’s restraint in handling the situation.
He also criticized the KP provincial government for allegedly using public resources to back the march, asserting that federating units have no right to stage demonstrations against the federal capital.
