ISLAMABAD, Aug 9 (Alliance News) – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar has emphasized the importance of transitioning Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts from traditional diplomacy to a stronger focus on economic diplomacy to advance the country’s development agenda.
Speaking at the 43rd passing out ceremony of the Specialized Diplomatic Course at the Foreign Services Academy, Deputy PM Dar stated, “The era of conventional diplomacy is over. We must now prioritize economic diplomacy alongside our traditional diplomatic efforts.”
He highlighted that the primary goal of foreign diplomacy should not only be to protect national interests but also to stimulate economic growth by leveraging Pakistan’s strategic position. Dar pointed out that Pakistan is at a critical juncture globally but has not fully utilized its advantageous location.
He urged young diplomats to acquire the skills needed to promote trade, investment, tourism, and workforce opportunities. “Today’s diplomats must be experts not only in international law and politics but also in economic diplomacy,” he remarked.
The Deputy PM also emphasized the need for hard work and dedication, advising young diplomats to focus on the nation’s development rather than personal luxuries. “I am confident you will lead Pakistan towards prosperity, peace, and stability,” he said.
Dar reassured his commitment to improving the infrastructure and operations of the Foreign Services Academy. He also reflected on Pakistan’s economic resilience, recalling that in 2013, Pakistan was on the brink of economic collapse but managed to become the 24th largest global economy within a few years. He lamented that political instability has since caused a decline in the country’s economic standing.
Despite challenges, Dar expressed optimism about Pakistan’s future, citing its nuclear power, strategic location, and vast natural resources, which he believes will one day position Pakistan as a leader in the Muslim world.
The Deputy PM also praised the Foreign Service Academy for its excellence in training diplomats, both from Pakistan and abroad. The ceremony concluded with the distribution of certificates and medals to top performers.
