DUBAI, Mar 7 (Alliance News): New Zealand fast bowler Matt Henry remains doubtful for the Champions Trophy final against India at Dubai Cricket Stadium due to a shoulder injury sustained during the semifinal against South Africa.
New Zealand head coach Gary Stead told the media in Dubai that Henry’s availability for the final is still uncertain.
The 33-year-old pacer, who is the tournament’s leading wicket-taker with 10 scalps at an average of 16.70, got injured while taking a catch in the semifinal in Lahore. Despite being in pain, he returned to bowl two overs.
Coach Stead confirmed that Henry has undergone scans and the team will give him every chance to recover before the final.
Meanwhile, New Zealand is confident ahead of the final, recalling their historic win against India in the 2000 ICC KnockOut Trophy. Skipper Kane Williamson, who played a crucial role in their World Test Championship triumph over India in 2021, believes his team can once again upset the favorites.
New Zealand heads into the final with strong momentum, having crushed South Africa in the semifinal with a record 362-6 total. With Rachin Ravindra and Williamson in top form, alongside a well-rounded spin attack led by captain Mitchell Santner, Michael Bracewell, Glenn Phillips, and Ravindra, the Kiwis aim to challenge India’s dominance.
New Zealand will be hoping for Henry’s recovery to strengthen their pace attack in the title clash.
