Multan Gas Tanker Explosion Claims Six Lives, Injures 33

MULTAN, Jan 27 (Alliance News): A devastating explosion of a gas-filled tanker in Multan’s Hamid Pur Kanora Industrial Estate has claimed six lives and injured 33 people, rescue authorities confirmed.

The early morning blast on Monday triggered a massive fire, destroying nearby houses and creating widespread panic.

Rescue teams battled the inferno for hours, utilizing over ten firefighting vehicles and foam-based fire suppression.

Officials confirmed that a minor girl and two women were among the deceased, and 13 of the injured remain in critical condition.

The explosion reduced 20 houses to rubble and partially damaged 70 others. The Multan City Police Officer (CPO), Sadiq Ali, revealed that the tanker’s valve had been leaking gas, prompting evacuations before the explosion occurred.

Investigations disclosed that the tanker was part of an illegal LPG refilling operation.

Authorities suspended electricity and gas supplies to ensure safety in the area, while Multan-Muzaffargarh Road was temporarily closed to traffic.

The Multan divisional administration has launched a crackdown on illegal LPG refilling sites, sealing off the blast location and banning gas tankers in residential areas.
