NCCIA initiates legal action over online hate campaign targeting state institutions

ISLAMABAD, May 15 (Alliance News): The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has launched legal proceedings against five individuals accused of running an online hate campaign against Pakistan’s state institutions amid the recent escalation in tensions with India.

A spokesperson for the NCCIA confirmed Thursday that first information reports (FIRs) had been registered under relevant cybercrime laws, naming the suspects for disseminating “false and provocative content” across social media platforms.

According to the spokesperson, the individuals allegedly orchestrated a coordinated disinformation campaign that targeted the armed forces and senior state officials. “The nominated individuals have been actively involved in promoting misleading propaganda against Pakistan’s state institutions,” the agency said.

The FIRs further stated that the suspects had repeatedly shared fabricated material aimed at inciting public hatred, sowing unrest, and creating anxiety and distrust towards national institutions.

The NCCIA claimed that the online content was designed to spread fear and confusion among citizens, ultimately undermining public confidence in the state.

Following the registration of FIRs, the agency confirmed that legal proceedings against the suspects are now underway. The spokesperson added that the NCCIA remains committed to curbing digital disinformation and holding those responsible for cyber misconduct accountable under the law.
