LONDON, Apr 30 (Alliance News): Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Dr. Muhammad Faisal, has called for the prosecution of Ankit Love and other protesters involved in threatening and criminal behavior during recent protests in London.
Speaking at a press conference, Dr. Faisal expressed confidence that the British law enforcement agencies would address the incident in accordance with UK laws.
He detailed the events surrounding the attack on Pakistan’s High Commission in London, which occurred in the early hours of April 27. A man, later identified as Ankit Love, threw stones and saffron-colored substances at the building, damaging windows and leaving stains on the walls.
Dr. Faisal mentioned that the Pakistani staff immediately alerted the Metropolitan Police, who swiftly apprehended the suspect.
The attack occurred amidst rising tensions between India and Pakistan, with protests outside the diplomatic missions of both countries in London.
The incident was preceded by another protest on April 25, involving the Indian/British Indian community, during which protesters, some dressed in saffron and waving Indian flags, reportedly engaged in hostile behavior and hurled racist and Islamophobic insults.
Dr. Faisal reiterated Pakistan’s expectation that the British authorities would prosecute those involved in the unruly protests and the attack, while also requesting enhanced security measures to protect Pakistan’s diplomatic missions in the UK.
He emphasized that this was not the first time Pakistan’s missions in the UK had been targeted and called on the British government to uphold its obligations under the Vienna Convention, ensuring the safety and dignity of diplomatic missions.
