MULTAN, Jan 19 (Alliance News): Pakistan defeated the West Indies by 127 runs in the first Test match, taking a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.
Chasing a target of 251 runs, the West Indies faltered and were bowled out for just 123, as Pakistan’s spinners delivered a stellar performance.
Sajid Khan led the attack with five wickets, supported by Abrar Ahmed and Noman Ali, who claimed four and one wickets, respectively.
Alick Athanaze provided the only resistance for the visitors with a resilient 55 runs.
Resuming the day at 109/3 in their second innings, Pakistan struggled to build a substantial lead. Saud Shakeel departed early, followed by Mohammad Rizwan (2), Kamran Ghulam (27), and Salman Ali Agha (14). Pakistan were bowled out for 157, setting a 251-run target.
West Indies spinner Jomel Warrican excelled, taking an impressive seven wickets, while Gudakesh Motie picked up one.
In their chase, the West Indies faced immense pressure, losing their skipper Kraigg Brathwaite early.
Keacy Carty (6), Kavem Hodge (0), and Justin Greaves (9) failed to steady the innings. Although Tevin Imlach (14) and Kevin Sinclair (10) attempted brief resistance, they could not withstand Pakistan’s spin assault.
Earlier in the match, Pakistan scored 230 in their first innings, while the West Indies collapsed for 137 in reply. The hosts’ first-innings lead played a decisive role in securing the victory.
With this win, Pakistan demonstrated their dominance, especially through their spin bowling, gaining crucial momentum for the second Test of the series.
