Pakistan to Launch Indigenous EO-1 Satellite on January 17

ISLAMABAD, Jan 13 (Alliance News): The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has announced the launch of the country’s first Indigenous Electro-Optical (EO-1) Satellite from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre (JSLC) in China on January 17.

This landmark achievement reflects SUPARCO’s dedication to advancing space science and innovation, positioning Pakistan as a key player in space technology development.

The EO-1 satellite aims to enhance the nation’s capacity for resource management, disaster response, food security, and sustainable development.

The satellite’s advanced imaging capabilities will significantly benefit agriculture by enabling precision farming, monitoring irrigation, predicting crop yields, and bolstering food security efforts.

It will also assist urban planning through tracking infrastructure growth and managing urban expansion, while offering timely data on environmental issues such as deforestation, glacier recession, and natural disasters like floods and landslides.

Additionally, EO-1 will support mineral and resource exploration, optimize water resource management, and contribute to energy sector advancements. The launch is a major step in fulfilling the objectives of Pakistan’s National Space Policy, showcasing SUPARCO’s commitment to technological innovation for national progress.
